America's Oldest Brewery

New Facility To Double Production

Primarily a production facility, the new brewery will be much different in appearance than the historic site. The new facility is to be built on a 16 acre site owned by the Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation and located south of Mill Creek Avenue.

One reason for the location is a consistent water supply from their current water source, the Schuylkill County Municipal Authority. The water is an important factor in the brewing process. Water makes up 96 percent of beer and is imperative in the beer's final taste.

The new brewery will create an estimated 100 jobs from machine operators to forklift drivers. The production is estimated at one million barrels annually which is twice the amount produced at the Mahantongo Street site.

Current part-time employees at the brewery will have the first opportunity for full-time employment at the new site. Hiring for the new location is not expected for at least one year.

The new location houses forty 1,000 barrel storage tanks, a 5,625 square foot brew house, and a three story 32,250 square foot per floor stock house. The new brewery has two packaging lines each packaging 1,000 pieces per minute. The two systems share a pasteurizer and conveyor system. The new 100,000 square foot warehouse and distribution center is a welcome improvement over the current 10,000 square feet available at the historic brewery. While not fully automated, inventory is tracked by computer.
