Yuengling & Son, Inc. is sponsoring a $5,000 tuition award to a new student Veteran for the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg’s Brewing Arts Program. The award will be for the January 2018 cohort and is the third time a brewery is sponsoring a Veteran award for the program.

The Brewing Arts program is a collaboration between USFSP College of Arts and Sciences and many local and national breweries. Launched in 2015, the Program is designed for those who range from hobbyists to enthusiasts looking to make a career in the industry by working in a brewery or opening a brewery one day. The award will allow a Veteran student to learn foundational knowledge via online courses as well as complete hands-on training with a local brewery.

Pottsville, PA, August 8, 2017 – Richard “Dick” Yuengling, owner of D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., announced on Friday that the Yuengling family will donate up to $2.8 million to the City of Pottsville for reconstruction of the Mahantongo Street parking garage.
The parking deck is located three blocks from America’s Oldest Brewery in Pottsville. The garage closed in October 2016 after it was deemed structurally deficient, at which point the city lost parking for area businesses and visitors.
“Our family has been in Pottsville for 188 years. It is the home of Yuengling, America’s Oldest Brewery. I am the 5th generation to run the family business, and I’m very passionate about preserving our city and its rich history. The current garage that is in need of repair presented my daughters and I with an opportunity to do something that felt right for the entire community,” said Richard “Dick” Yuengling. “I am a big believer in Pottsville’s potential. This donation will offer a convenient parking option for local businesses, patrons and visitors. We’re excited to partner with the city, local businesses and the community to make Pottsville a better place to work, live and visit.”

This donation is part of the Yuengling Community Initiative Program. The Yuengling Brewery has been a longtime fixture in not only supporting local events, but also giving back to the people that have helped Yuengling survive through the generations. During prohibition, the brewery built a creamery across the street to stay in business and keep workers employed, and re-opened in March 2016 as the Yuengling Gift Shop and Museum, a $10 million investment in campus renovations using industry-leading sustainability technology. Public tours of the brewery are offered at no charge and are available Monday-Saturday. The gift shop is open from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays (April – December only) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pottsville, PA, July 24, 2017 – D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. recognized the sacrifices that America’s veterans have made at the 118th Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) National Convention in New Orleans, LA.
Jennifer Yuengling presented a donation to the VFW for $100,000. The donation supports veterans navigating claims of earned benefits such as education, relocation and medical benefits through their life.

BETHLEHEM, PA—Two of Pennsylvania’s most recognizable and iconic brands, Yuengling and Martin Guitar, are partnering this summer to expand the musical offerings at Musikfest, the nation’s largest free music festival. The Martin Guitar Jam Stage at Yuengling Lagerplatz, the festival’s 16th and newest performance stage, will feature acoustic sets by a number of festival artists, while also giving event attendees the opportunity to serve up their own performances during open mic sessions.
Launched last year to provide a new programming element for Musikfest attendees, Yuengling Lagerplatz is presented by the Pottsville-based D.G. This year, Yuengling has added to the experience by partnering with Musikfest and Martin Guitar to present more than 40 acoustic sets by festival artists. Among the many performers who will take the stage are Nalani & Sarina, twin sisters who recently won The Freshmen contest on mtvU with their video “Get Away;” country singer Erin Kelly; the female-fronted power-pop band Summer Scouts; and singer-songwriter Anthony Cubbage. Pottsville, PA, July 11, 2017 –D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. was recognized today by PPL Electric Utilities for its energy savings over the last year resulting from a recent alternative energy project at America’s Oldest Brewery in Pottsville.
PPL Electric Utilities awarded the brewery a one-time energy savings rebate from the alternative energy savings achieved from the installation of its Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system located in the historic dairy building, part of the Pottsville campus of America’s Oldest Brewery. The restored dairy building also houses the brewery’s new gift shop, museum and hospitality area.
“D.G. Yuengling & Son, a company rich in history, chose an innovative way to reduce its energy use through this combined heat and power project,” said Greg Dudkin, president of PPL Electric Utilities. “We’re glad to have helped support Yuengling in this energy-saving project. We encourage both businesses and residential customers to look into PPL’s energy efficiency programs, which offer many opportunities to save.”
This award is an offshoot of Yuengling’s sustainability initiatives where CHP projects were implemented across all three breweries in its footprint. The Yuengling Pottsville wastewater pretreatment plant and CHP project were completed December 28, 2016. The energy savings that related to the rebate was KWH savings of 1,465,996 units. The rebate of almost $44,000 presented Tuesday is a one-time rebate received upon completion of the CHP project.
At its Mill Creek brewery, a wastewater treatment plant was installed in 2001 when the brewery was built and the CHP system was installed in 2014. A wastewater pretreatment plant and CHP project is underway in its Tampa brewery with a projected completion date of August 2017. Yuengling’s CHP system is leading sustainability technology within the craft brewing industry.
