Yuengling & Son, Inc. is sponsoring a $5,000 tuition award to a new student Veteran for the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg’s Brewing Arts Program. The award will be for the January 2018 cohort and is the third time a brewery is sponsoring a Veteran award for the program.

We strongly support our veterans who have served and represent our country’s freedom, integrity and independence,” said Jennifer Yuengling, VP of Operations for D.G Yuengling & Son, Inc. “As a neighbor and partner to USF, we proudly support their Brewing Arts Program and the opportunity for a veteran to study brewing and join this exciting industry.”

The Brewing Arts program is a collaboration between USFSP College of Arts and Sciences and many local and national breweries. Launched in 2015, the Program is designed for those who range from hobbyists to enthusiasts looking to make a career in the industry by working in a brewery or opening a brewery one day. The award will allow a Veteran student to learn foundational knowledge via online courses as well as complete hands-on training with a local brewery.

Yuengling Family Donates up to $2.8 Million to City of Pottsville for Parking Garage Renovation

Pottsville, PA, August 8, 2017 – Richard “Dick” Yuengling, owner of D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., announced on Friday that the Yuengling family will donate up to $2.8 million to the City of Pottsville for reconstruction of the Mahantongo Street parking garage.

The parking deck is located three blocks from America’s Oldest Brewery in Pottsville. The garage closed in October 2016 after it was deemed structurally deficient, at which point the city lost parking for area businesses and visitors.

“Our family has been in Pottsville for 188 years. It is the home of Yuengling, America’s Oldest Brewery. I am the 5th generation to run the family business, and I’m very passionate about preserving our city and its rich history. The current garage that is in need of repair presented my daughters and I with an opportunity to do something that felt right for the entire community,” said Richard “Dick” Yuengling. “I am a big believer in Pottsville’s potential. This donation will offer a convenient parking option for local businesses, patrons and visitors.  We’re excited to partner with the city, local businesses and the community to make Pottsville a better place to work, live and visit.”

“On behalf of myself and Pottsville City Council, we also are a big believer in the potential of Pottsville. This is a game changer. We are proud to be a part of America’s Oldest Brewery, D.G. Yuengling and Sons, and we are extremely grateful for this more than generous donation and it will serve the community well. Thank you to the Yuengling family,” said Mayor Muldowney.

“The Pottsville Business Association is very excited about the high level of generosity the Yuengling family has shown with their donation towards the Mahantongo Parking Deck,” said Savas Logothetides, vice president of the Pottsville Business Association and 3rd generation business owner. “The businesses in the commercial district will no doubt benefit from the increased convenience additional parking will provide. Yuengling has been, and continues to be, a great partner in the very visible progress within the City of Pottsville.”

This donation is part of the Yuengling Community Initiative Program. The Yuengling Brewery has been a longtime fixture in not only supporting local events, but also giving back to the people that have helped Yuengling survive through the generations. The Yuengling Community Initiative Program focuses on causes that are important to our consumers, wholesalers, retailers, employees and local communities. In July, the brewery donated $100,000 to the VFW to support veterans and their families with benefits assistance programs such as education, relocation and medical benefits.

America’s Oldest Brewery in Pottsville receives about 70,000 visitors annually. During prohibition, the brewery built a creamery across the street to stay in business and keep workers employed, and re-opened in March 2016 as the Yuengling Gift Shop and Museum, a $10 million investment in campus renovations using industry-leading sustainability technology. Public tours of the brewery are offered at no charge and are available Monday-Saturday. The gift shop is open from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays (April – December only) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Martin Guitar Jam Stage at Yuengling Lagerplatz Offers Acoustic Sets by Festival Performers & Public Open Mic Sessions

BETHLEHEM, PA—Two of Pennsylvania’s most recognizable and iconic brands, Yuengling and Martin Guitar, are partnering this summer to expand the musical offerings at Musikfest, the nation’s largest free music festival.  The Martin Guitar Jam Stage at Yuengling Lagerplatz, the festival’s 16th and newest performance stage, will feature acoustic sets by a number of festival artists, while also giving event attendees the opportunity to serve up their own performances during open mic sessions.

Launched last year to provide a new programming element for Musikfest attendees, Yuengling Lagerplatz is presented by the Pottsville-based D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc., the nation’s oldest brewery, established in 1829. At Lagerplatz, guests can enjoy Yuengling Traditional Lager, Summer Wheat and other Yuengling beers; take part in fun games like jumbo Jenga and bean bags; and enter to win great prizes like Yuengling merch and tickets to Musikfest’s hottest concerts.

This year, Yuengling has added to the experience by partnering with Musikfest and Martin Guitar to present more than 40 acoustic sets by festival artists. Among the many performers who will take the stage are Nalani & Sarina, twin sisters who recently won The Freshmen contest on mtvU with their video “Get Away;” country singer Erin Kelly; the female-fronted power-pop band Summer Scouts; and singer-songwriter Anthony Cubbage. Stop by on any given evening and you’ll hear everything from folk and country to stripped down versions of rock and alt songs.

“We are excited to partner with Martin Guitar to create another entertaining experience for the anticipated million plus Musikfest attendees this year,” says Tyler Simpson, Director of Marketing for D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc. “This enhanced Lagerplatz experience will be a “must see” venue at this year’s festival. We hope everyone will stop by the open mic session at Lagerplatz for a Yuengling Traditional Lager and to try out the amazing Martin guitars.”

Founded in 1833 by Christian Frederick Martin Sr., C.F. Martin & Company has called the region home for more than 180 years, dedicating itself to crafting the finest acoustic instruments and guitar strings. Two years ago, Martin started showcasing at Musikfest its guitars like the D-28 Dreadnought, the guitar of choice for legends such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Father John Misty, Jimmy Page and countless others, as well as smaller bodied models like the OM and 00, favored by Eric Clapton, John Mayer and Paul Simon. These world famous guitars will once again be at the festival, giving artists and attendees the opportunity to try them out.

This year, the Nazareth-based company is expanding the experience by giving members of the public the opportunity to win guitars by showcasing their talent at several open mic sessions, possibly becoming the next big Musikfest star. Individuals can register onsite for the open mic sessions by stopping at Yuengling Lagerplatz, and Martin will have several handcrafted masterpieces available that singers can use to accompany them on their favorite songs.

“The Martin Guitar Jam Stage is an interactive open mic where festival attendees have a chance to perform a song and be entered to win one of several guitars being awarded at Musikfest this year,” says Chris Thomas, Director of Marketing at Martin. “We are always impressed with the amazing talent that would otherwise just walk on by. We’ve had some jaw dropping moments on the Jam Stage and we hope you’ll join us.”

Yuengling Announces Community Initiative Program as part of PPL Electric Utilities Recognition of Energy Savings

Pottsville, PA, July 11, 2017 –D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. was recognized today by PPL Electric Utilities for its energy savings over the last year resulting from a recent alternative energy project at America’s Oldest Brewery in Pottsville.

PPL Electric Utilities awarded the brewery a one-time energy savings rebate from the alternative energy savings achieved from the installation of its Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system located in the historic dairy building, part of the Pottsville campus of America’s Oldest Brewery. The restored dairy building also houses the brewery’s new gift shop, museum and hospitality area.

“D.G. Yuengling & Son, a company rich in history, chose an innovative way to reduce its energy use through this combined heat and power project,” said Greg Dudkin, president of PPL Electric Utilities. “We’re glad to have helped support Yuengling in this energy-saving project. We encourage both businesses and residential customers to look into PPL’s energy efficiency programs, which offer many opportunities to save.”

This award is an offshoot of Yuengling’s sustainability initiatives where CHP projects were implemented across all three breweries in its footprint. The Yuengling Pottsville wastewater pretreatment plant and CHP project were completed December 28, 2016. The energy savings that related to the rebate was KWH savings of 1,465,996 units. The rebate of almost $44,000 presented Tuesday is a one-time rebate received upon completion of the CHP project.

At its Mill Creek brewery, a wastewater treatment plant was installed in 2001 when the brewery was built and the CHP system was installed in 2014. A wastewater pretreatment plant and CHP project is underway in its Tampa brewery with a projected completion date of August 2017. Yuengling’s CHP system is leading sustainability technology within the craft brewing industry.

“We’re proud to have the brewery recognized for this energy savings sustainability project,” said Wendy Yuengling, Chief Administrative Officer of D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. “Renewable energy is just one piece of our efforts to improve our communities’ future. Today, we are pleased to announce the launch of our Yuengling Community Initiative Program.”

The Yuengling Community Initiative Program is part of the brewery’s efforts to contribute to causes that are important to our consumers, wholesalers, retailers, employees and company. Funds from the rebate check will help support the company’s stainability and local market charity programs.

SMITHFIELD, Va. – June 8, 2017 – Smithfield and Yuengling – two brands known for their longstanding heritage and dedication to craftsmanship – are proud to announce they have partnered on the perfect pairing just in time for grilling season – the Smithfield Yuengling Traditional Lager Bratwursts. Smithfield’s premium pork combined with Yuengling’s full-bodied amber lager offers a rich, bold flavor and a taste of tradition.

This perfect union was founded on a dedication to producing the highest quality products and a shared expertise that only comes with time. Since 1936, Smithfield has operated out of the small town of Smithfield, Virginia, where its long heritage of smoking and curing fine meats to perfection has launched it to become a leading provider of some of the most popular foods including sausage, bacon, and ham. But, even with the brand’s widespread footprint, Smithfield remains grounded in a quaint town filled with history and flavor, and committed to the values on which it was founded. Similarly, Yuengling, founded in 1829, is a fifth-generation, family-operated company that was started and remains in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. For more than 200 years, America’s oldest brewery has stayed true to its traditional values and unwavering dedication to create premium products with an authentic, signature taste.

“As a brand that has brought families together over food for more than 80 years, we’re excited to partner with a like-minded brand that shares our values for tradition, quality and family moments,” said Michael Merritt, Smithfield Foods senior director of brand marketing. “As the country’s oldest brewery, Yuengling brings an unmatched expertise and craftsmanship that pair perfectly with our commitment to making flavorful, high-quality products like the Smithfield Yuengling Traditional Lager Bratwursts.”

“We are proud to partner with Smithfield, another iconic American brand, to delight grilling fans with these bratwursts made with actual Yuengling lager,” said Jennifer Yuengling, sixth generation legacy and vice president of operations of Yuengling. “Like Smithfield, Yuengling places immense care and attention on our brands and delivering great taste, and we are thrilled to see consumers’ reactions to the delicious combination of our two brands.”

The Smithfield Yuengling Traditional Lager Bratwursts are part of the new Smithfield Craft Collection, a variety of brats made with premium real craft beer from brewers across the U.S., developed by the brand’s leading innovation team. With each creation of new and flavorful products that correspond with ever-evolving consumer tastes and trends, Smithfield remains grounded in its decades-old tradition of making quality products for the whole family.

Smithfield Yuengling Bratwursts are available in 19-ounce packages for a limited time throughout grilling season at East Coast grocers at an MSRP of $4.99. For more information, visit Smithfield.com.
